The 2014 Brenda Clouten Memorial Traveling Scholarship for a Young Achiever in Visual Arts

Conditions of entry
1. Entrants must be a student at a
tertiary education institution in the hunter and lower hunter (including
singleton) in 2014 and be under 25 years of age.
2. Submissions must be of the original
work of the entrant and must have been
completed within the previous 12
months.
3. Work submitted may be in any form of visual
art. Essays and written work will
not be accepted.
4. There
is no entry fee.
5. The Brenda Clouten Memorial Travelling
Scholarship for a Young Achiever in Visual Arts is a travelling scholarship to
the total value of $3,000.
6. Artists are asked to submit artworks
with consideration for the exhibition space for selected finalists which is G3,
the ground floor hallway space of Maitland Regional Art Gallery. Please note attached floor plan.
7. Submissions
are to be in the form of high quality digital files (jpeg, tiff) on CD in pc
format accompanied by a written application.
8. All submitted images of artworks will
be viewed by three judges for the artist’s possible inclusion in the finalist’s
exhibition to be held at MRAG from 28 November 2014 – 22 February 2015.
9. Artists selected
for the finalist’s exhibition will give permission to the Maitland Regional Art
Gallery to reproduce their work for catalogue purposes and publicity related to
the award.
10. The winning artist will make one artwork
available to be on loan for fundraising dinners in honour of the memorial for
the period of one year after receiving the award. The winning artist, on return
from travel, will be invited to the following year’s exhibition opening and
presentation to speak about their experience.
11. The
decision of the judges will be final. In the event of any other dispute in
connection with the exhibition, the ruling of the Cultural Director of Maitland
Regional Art Gallery shall be final.
12. Maitland
Regional Art Gallery is not bound to exhibit an entry.
13. Completed entry forms, the artist’s submission as outlined on the
entry form, and digital images of 4 works should be sent by Friday, 28
September 2014 to Maitland
Regional Art Gallery PO Box 220, Maitland NSW 2320.
14. Judging will be by a panel of 3. Finalists will be notified by mail by mid
October 2014.
15. A maximum of 5 artists will be
notified of their selection for the finalist’s exhibition. They are requested to be present at the announcement
and presentation of the travelling scholarship at 6pm on Friday 28 November at MRAG.
16. Artworks
by the finalists, as decided by the panel, must be delivered to the art
gallery ready for installation no later than one week prior to 28
November 2014.
17. The
greatest possible care will be taken of all works but no liability will be
accepted for the loss of an artwork or damage to any entry.
18. If
insurance is required this will be the responsibility of the entrant and should
include an insurance cover for transit to and from the art gallery.
19. Works are
to be collected from the art gallery at the close of the exhibition by the
artist on Monday 23 February 2015.
